Discover Sumba, Day by Day
Follow this carefully designed itinerary that takes you from West to East Sumba. Each day reveals a new adventure—swimming in turquoise lagoons, exploring ancient villages, chasing hidden waterfalls, and capturing magical sunsets on the island’s most iconic beaches.
Your adventure begins at Tambolaka Airport (TMC), where you’ll be greeted by your driver-guide. The first stop is the stunning Weekuri Lagoon, a turquoise natural pool formed by seawater blocked by rocky cliffs—perfect for swimming or simply soaking in the scenery. Next, enjoy a picnic lunch at Mandorak Beach, a small cove of soft white sand framed by dramatic cliffs facing each other like a giant natural gate.
In the afternoon, continue to Ratenggaro Village, famous for its soaring thatched houses and megalithic tombs that reflect Sumba’s ancient culture. Just 20 minutes away lies Pero Beach, one of West Sumba’s best sunset spots, where the sky transforms into a canvas of fiery colors. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel in Tambolaka.
After breakfast and check-out, visit Waikelo Sawah, a cave spring that irrigates wide rice fields in the region. Continue with a short walk to Weekacura River, a peaceful stream set amid rice paddies where you can swim and relax.
After lunch, journey to Prai Ijing Village, one of the most photogenic traditional settlements in West Sumba. With its towering thatched houses and megalithic structures, the village offers plenty of opportunities for cultural exploration, photography, and interaction with locals.
In the afternoon, travel east towards Waingapu, the capital of East Sumba. On the way, stop at the breathtaking Wairinding Hills, where rolling savannas glow golden during sunset. Dinner and overnight stay in Waingapu.
After breakfast, embark on an adventure to Tanggedu Waterfall, often called the “Grand Canyon of East Sumba” thanks to its striking rock formations and natural pools. This hidden gem is one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the island.
Next, head to Puru Kambera Beach, where a vast stretch of white sand meets open savannas dotted with wild horses. Continue to Walakiri Beach, famous for its pygmy mangrove trees that create magical silhouettes against the glowing sunset. Return to Waingapu for dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, check out from Padadita Hotel and transfer to Waingapu Airport (WGP) for your flight to the next destination, bringing home unforgettable memories of Sumba’s landscapes, culture, and warm hospitality.
