The Path Through Sumba
Follow this thoughtfully designed itinerary that guides you through Sumba’s most iconic sites. Each day reveals a new adventure—whether it’s exploring traditional villages, swimming in crystal-clear lagoons, chasing hidden waterfalls, or watching the sun set over pristine beaches.
Welcome to Sumba! Upon arrival at Tambolaka Airport (TMC), you’ll be greeted by your driver-guide and taken to Manola Traditional Village, a hilltop settlement where locals still live traditionally with warm hospitality. In the afternoon, continue to Mananga Aba Beach and enjoy a mesmerizing sunset over the horizon. Check in at your hotel, followed by dinner at a local restaurant.
After breakfast, set out to explore the Kodi area. Begin with Weekuri Lagoon, a natural saltwater pool with crystal-clear turquoise water perfect for a refreshing swim. Lunch will be served picnic-style at Mandorak Beach, a pristine cove framed by dramatic cliffs. Next, visit Ratenggaro Village, famous for its traditional houses with towering roofs and its location by the Indian Ocean. End the day at Pero Beach, one of Sumba’s best spots for watching the sunset. Return to Tambolaka for dinner and overnight stay.
Check out after breakfast and head to Waikelo Sawah, a natural cave spring that irrigates surrounding rice fields. Continue to Weekacura River, where you can relax and swim amidst stunning rice field landscapes. After lunch in Waikabubak, visit Prai Ijing Village, a traditional settlement known for its unique architecture and cultural heritage. In the afternoon, drive east to the spectacular Wairinding Hills, a rolling savanna landscape made famous in the film The Golden Cane Warrior. Capture the panoramic views before proceeding to Waingapu, East Sumba’s capital, for hotel check-in, dinner, and overnight stay.
Today begins with a visit to Tanggedu Waterfall, often dubbed the "Grand Canyon of East Sumba" for its dramatic rock formations and natural pools—perfect for a refreshing dip. Afterward, enjoy the vast savannas and white sands of Puru Kambera Beach, where wild horses often roam freely. As the day winds down, head to Walakiri Beach, famous for its "dancing mangrove trees" that create a magical silhouette during sunset. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel in Waingapu.
After breakfast, check out from your hotel and transfer to Waingapu Airport (WGP) for your flight to your next destination. Goodbye Sumba… until we meet again!
